In 2018, supported by the high prices of propylene oxide (PO), propylene glycol prices remained at a high level of around RMB 9,000/mt. In H1, 2018, limited by the feedstock and demand, propylene glycol prices were range-bound. Thereinto, “Looking Back” policy and Qingdao Summit dragged down the downstream demand, making propylene glycol prices decrease. However, due to the support of the costs and the recovering of downstream market, the propylene glycol prices rose somewhat. In early Q3, 2018, downstream industries were in the off season. The supply of propylene glycol was abundant due to the high operating rate. Moreover, imported goods were arriving at that time. Thus, propylene glycol prices fluctuated slightly at a low level and once dropped to RMB 9,000/mt. After that, propylene oxide prices surged. The propylene glycol inventory was not high due to the high export volume when the prices were low. Therefore, propylene glycol prices may go back to a high level.
