After more than 600 days of construction, Unit 2 of Hefei Changfeng 9F-class gas power plant successfully passed 168 hours of full load trial operation recently, which marks the first 9F-class gas power plant in Anhui province officially put into operation.

After being put into operation, the annual use of natural gas is estimated to be about 370 mcm, with annual carbon emissions down about 670kt and the annual power generation at 1.9 billion KWH.

The commissioning of the new gas power plant will likely boost natural gas demand in Anhui. Anhui set new records in natural gas consumption and growth rate in 2023, when the gas consumption in Anhui reached 9.74 bcm, with a Y-O-Y growth of about 25%.

In order to build a new pattern of multi-source gas supply, Anhui has further expanded its upstream supply channels. It has actively introduced unconventional natural gas resources such as LNG, Xinjiang coal-based gas, and Shanxi coalbed gas. The annual supply from suppliers other than CNPC, Sinopec, and CNOOC has reached 1.50 bcm, accounting for 15% of the total gas supply in the province, exceeding double digits for the first time. To further facilitate the midstream gas channel, Anhui has vigorously promoted the construction of oil and gas infrastructure in recent years. In 2023, projects such as the Jiangsu-Anhui Pipeline, Northeast Anhui Pipeline, and Bozhou-Taihe Pipeline were completed and put into operation, significantly enhancing the natural gas transmission capacity and solving the gas supply bottleneck in cities such as Hefei, Chuzhou, and Bozhou, fully meeting the gas demand. In addition, the downstream end market has been further developed. Under the premise of matching supply with demand and implementing resources, the scale of the gas market is expanding in an orderly manner. In terms of residential gas, the installation and use of wall-hanged furnaces for residents are fully guaranteed to meet the winter heating need. In terms of industrial gas, efforts are made to promote the production and expansion of major industrial users such as BYD and gas peak-shaving power plants, leading to a rapid increase in the scale of industrial gas usage.
