SCI China Imported Wood Pulp Price Index (Apr 19 - Apr 25, 2024)

This week, the SCI imported wood pulp price index rose. As of April 25, the price index closed at 1,265, up 17 W-O-W and 19% Y-O-Y.

Imported wood pulp spot market trends still varied this week, and buyers showed resistance to high-priced resources. Factors affecting the pulp market were as follows. First, given the anticipated increase in import costs in May, the futures market at SHFE went bullish. Spot sellers raised their offers accordingly and became reluctant to sell at lows. Second, downstream paper prices fell continuously, and paper mills still attempted to press down the purchase price and bought essential volumes. Trading for high-priced resources was in a stalemate. Third, the demand for CMP failed to improve noticeably, and its price fell constantly.

According to SCI, as of April 25, the weekly average SWP price was RMB 6,371/mt, flat W-O-W, and the HWP price was RMB 5,607/mt, up 0.59% W-O-W. The weekly average UKP price was RMB 5,492, up 1.24% W-O-W, and the weekly average CMP price was RMB 4,075/mt, down 0.32% W-O-W.
