Jan 3-Jan 9, 2025 China PP Unit Maintenance Intensity up
Highlights: The output loss of PP caused by unit shutdown was around 121.7kt this week, up 4.5kt WOW. According to SCI’s research, the output loss caused by maintenance will probably decrease by 0.99% WOW to 120.5kt next week.

China’s weekly PP output and operating rates both went up this week. The output loss of PP caused by unit shutdown climbed by 4.5kt WOW to 121.7kt. Some producers such as Xuzhou Haitian Petrochemical and Shandong Yulong Petrochemical shut units down for maintenance. Some producers such as JINNENG Chemical (Qingdao) and Sinopec-SK (Wuhan) Petrochemical restarted their units.

Methodology: The output loss above refers to the affected output due to maintenance at producers during the week with a sample coverage rate of 100%. It is calculated via multiplying daily output by maintenance days.

China’s PP supply will probably go up amid fewer unit turnarounds. There may be limited new arrangements for unit maintenance in the short run, and some closed units will be restarted gradually, pushing up the overall PP supply. The output loss caused by maintenance will probably decrease by 0.99% WOW to 120.5kt next week.
