CNPC’s Southwest Gas
Field has set an ambitious target to achieve a natural gas production of 50 BCM
in 2025. This goal will require the full operation of over 400 newly developed
gas wells and the realization of an additional production increase of over 5 BCM.
To ensure the
high-quality achievement of this target, the Southwest Gas Field has already
made early preparations. All well locations for the new production wells have
been confirmed, with drilling operations set to commence by the end of
February. Key surface projects, including the Anyue Phase II gas purification
plant and its associated pipelines, as well as the tight gas deep-cold
processing plant, have entered the main construction phase. All major projects
have been incorporated into the 2025 investment framework plan, with project
schedules and investments largely secured. Additionally, a resource allocation
plan for nearly 200 drilling rigs and dozens of fracturing units, combining
regional coordination and external support, has been put in place.
As the largest
natural gas supplier in Southwest China and the second-largest gas field under
CNPC, the Southwest Gas Field has maintained an average annual growth rate of
nearly 3 BCM over the past decade. The field accounts for about one-fifth of
China’s total natural gas production. After surpassing the 40 BCM mark in 2023,
the gas field achieved a record production of over 44.7 BCM in 2024,
representing a Y-o-Y increase of 6.4%.
