The South Xinjiang
Natural Gas Pipeline project is set to significantly enhance the region's gas
supply capacity. The latest phase of the project, which includes two major
pipelines from Yingmaili to San Cha and from Lunan to Shangku Industrial Park, started
construction on March 10, 2025. These pipelines, with a combined length of 510
kilometers, are expected to be fully operational by November 30, 2025. Once
completed, they will add a total gas supply capacity of 27.6 mcm/d, equivalent
to 10 BCMa.
This expansion is
part of the broader “Gasification of South Xinjiang” project, which aims to
improve gas supply security in the region. The overall project is planned to
cover a total length of 2,108 kilometers and will be implemented in three
phases. The first phase, which began construction in March 2024 and became operational
in October of the same year, already increased the daily gas supply capacity by
31 mcm/d.
The new pipelines
will connect major gas fields in the Tarim Basin with the existing gas supply
network in South Xinjiang, further strengthening the region's energy
infrastructure. This will not only meet the growing demand for natural gas but
also support economic development and improve living standards for local
communities.
