Oman LNG, state-owned producer of Oman, said April 17 it had
signed a final SPA with Shell for the 10-year supply of up to 1.6 Mtpa of LNG, to
be delivered in 2025, making Shell the largest LNG offtaker from Oman LNG.
The SPA with Shell also came after Oman LNG announced April 16 the
signing of an SPA with Japan’s JERA for 0.8 Mtpa of LNG. The 10-year SPA will
also see deliveries begin in 2025. Oman LNG, in which the government of Oman
holds 51%, operates three LNG trains in Qalhat with a nameplate capacity of
10.4 Mtpa sourcing gas from the central Oman gas field complex. The deal would sustain
Oman’s position as a reliable LNG supplier globally and maintain global energy security.
Earlier in February 2023, Oman LNG agreed to supply Unipec, the
trading arm of China’s state-owned energy giant Sinopec, with around 1 Mtpa of
LNG for four years. The supply will also start in 2025. This is the first
contract that Oman LNG signed with a Chinese firm. However, it is shorter than
the previous deals which were mostly for a duration of 10 years.
