March 30 witnessed
the groundbreaking of the Fujian-Guangdong Natural Gas Pipeline Link, a
significant stride in China’s energy infrastructure acceleration and the interweaving
of the national natural gas grid. The pipeline is expected to be operational by
the end of this year.
Spanning 23.46
kilometers, the pipeline originates from Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, and
terminates in Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province, with an annual gas
transmission capacity of 1.058 bcm.
Upon completion, this
link will eliminate the operational disconnect between Fujian and Guangdong’s
natural gas networks. It will integrate Phase II of the West Fujian Network
with Guangdong’s main natural gas pipeline, enabling reverse gas resource flow
from southern Fujian to eastern Guangdong and facilitating two-way gas resource
transmission between these regions.
The project will
interconnect with existing pipelines like the East Section of the West-East Gas
Pipeline III and the Zhangzhou Terminal Output Pipeline. Together, they will
form the backbone of the Southeast Coastal Regional Pipeline Network. This
integration will promote networking between the West-East Gas Pipeline system
and imported LNG resources from coastal LNG receiving terminals, enhancing gas
resource flexibility, and boosting the resource security and emergency
peak-shaving capabilities of the two provinces.
