2017–2018 China Yellow Phosphorus Market Annual Report
Highlights
In 2017, because of the severe environmental protection supervision, price surge of graphite electrode and Yunnan’s high electricity price in flood season, the yellow phosphorus price increased obviously from previous years and even rose twice in the conventional lull season. Gross profit rates at Yunnan manufacturing enterprises averaged at 0.4%, up 0.7% year on year. The average operating rate at those yellow phosphorus enterprises was around 37% in response to the high cost and poor demand. Besides, influenced by the supply-side structural reform and environmental protection policy, the newly-added capacity of yellow phosphorus was only 50kt in 2017, and the surplus capacity was continued to be eliminated. On the whole, China’s yellow phosphorus market was fairish in the first half of 2017.
In 2018, the electricity transaction in yellow phosphorus market will be further market-oriented. Meanwhile, with the continuously extending of “west-east power transmission” project, the out-supply electricity transmission of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan will keep rising, and the SCI predicts that the electricity charge may be maintained at a relatively high level. As the government pays high attention to the use and governance for exhaust gas, waste water and effluent from phosphorus chemical industry, the environmental protection cost of yellow phosphorus enterprises booms, aggravating the cost pressure.
