Over the past five years, the PVC powder capacity has been
relatively concentrated, with the capacity share of the TOP 10 producers
consistently maintaining around 39%. There are many large enterprises within
the industry with substantial capacities. As the degree of oversupply has
deepened in recent years, competition among enterprises has intensified,
leading to the elimination of some small and medium-sized enterprises and a
reduction in their numbers. In 2024,
there are 67 PVC powder producers in China, with the TOP 10 companies
accounting for 39.28% of the capacity share, indicating a relatively high
concentration of capacity. The large-scale units have greater influence, and
maintenance and changes in these units have a significant impact on the mindset
of market participants.
From the perspective of the regional concentration of PVC
powder capacity in China, and the capacity was still concentrated in the three
major production areas of Northwest China, North China, and East China, with a
total capacity of 24,270kt/a, accounting for 87.05% of China’s total.
Specifically, the newly added capacity in 2024 was mainly in Northwest China
and East China. The capacity in Northwest
China still accounted for the largest proportion, mainly because local
producers have obvious scale advantages and cost advantages, and there are many
leading enterprises. Northwest China is not only the main production area of
PVC powder but also the main production area of feedstock calcium carbide. Most
enterprises have supporting calcium carbide units, so their advantages of cost
and feedstock supply stability are obvious. East China is close to the
downstream consumer market and has a concentration of ethylene-based PVC units.
Within the year, the PVC powder capacity in Central China was eliminated due to
a lack of cost advantages.
