SCI China Imported Wood Pulp Price Index (Apr 18 - Apr 24, 2025)

The SCI imported wood pulp price index decreased. As of April 24, the index closed at 1,117, down 12 points WoW and 11% YoY.

Most imported wood pulp spot prices continued to decline this week except for CMP amidst overall weak market activities. Key drivers affecting the wood pulp spot market were as follows. First, the weak performance of the SHFE pulp futures deepened bearish market sentiment, pressuring SWP spot prices. Second, low procurement enthusiasm from downstream paper mills, coupled with rumors of low-priced domestic HWP and discounted HWP import offers, accelerated HWP spot price declines. Third, persistent sales pressure for imported UKP kept prices under downward pressure. Last, the tight availability of imported CMP prompted some regional traders to raise offers, driving average prices up though high-price transactions remained scarce.

SCI data shows that as of April 24, the weekly average price of imported SWP was RMB 6,175/mt, down 0.44% WoW, and the price of imported HWP averaged RMB 4,417/mt, down 2.41% WoW. The weekly average price of imported UKP was RMB 5,533/mt, down 0.45% WoW, while that of CMP was RMB 3,878/mt, up 0.94% WoW.
