China’s PA66 market prices went down in 2022 curbed by demand and due to a relatively large increment in PA66 prices in 2021. Taking the mainstream grade EPR27 as an example, the market price in East China market dropped to RMB 21,550/mt in early August, down RMB 16,100/mt or 43% from the beginning of 2022. Newly added PA66 capacity was released intensively and reached 107kt/a in 2022, with a capacity growth rate of 18%. Up to now, China’s PA66 capacity totaled 697kt/a, indicating a change in supply and demand pattern.
In 2022, China’s first butadiene-based adiponitrile project successfully came online, breaking the foreign blockade and monopoly on China’s adiponitrile technology. The process of localization of adiponitrile continued to accelerate. More than 2,800kt/a newly added adiponitrile capacity and 5,000kt/a newly added PA66 capacity are expected to go into production in the next five years, and industry insiders will focus on the changes in China’s PA66 supply and demand and the process of localization.
